FROM THE DESK OF MS. HAUGEN
We have just over 7 weeks left in the school year! Congratulations to the following students for auditioning and participating in this year’s Big Bend All District Band: Fredrick Smith III, Julie Gamache, Kylie James, Brandon Hance, Harold Lim, Aidan Gonzalez, Rachel Baek, Casey Caukins, McKenna Parker, Christian Magar, Sam Roberts, Megan Kramer, Max Van Hoeij, Katie Brinkman, Adam Zeirden, Aaron Gamache and Marissa Hutchins. The live performance was incredible!
This week we have our long awaited Solo and Ensemble event. Please click here for scheduled events!
Lucky Goat Coffee forms and $ are due to the box Monday, April 19th! Pick up will be Monday, May 3 in the LHS Bus Loop.
Lucky Goat Fundraiser
- Only ground coffee is available. The whole bean option is not offered for this fundraiser.
- Bags of coffee are now 10 oz. each (instead of 12 oz.)
- Each bag costs $11 and your student band fee account will receive $4.50 for each bag sold.
- Please have your customers pay you and then write one check for the full order to Lincoln High School. Make sure to include your phone number and student name on your check.
- The seasonal flavor is Crème Brulee.
April Solo and Ensemble
- This assessment is paid for by the Lincoln program, but if you are performing a solo, the accompanist fee (to be paid to the accompanist) is $35 per solo. Most students are using Mr. Spainhour, so you can either give your check/cash to him personally or you can put it in the band box, and we will deliver it to him.
- ALL students are expected to perform either a solo or an ensemble for S&E this year. This is 25% of their grade this 9 weeks. This information went out in December and has been a part of our curriculum every class since January.
- Mr. Spainhour is coming to class on Tuesday and Wednesday morning next week to record anyone who needs to practice/record their solo. All recordings for solos and/or ensembles are due by Wednesday, April 21st and can be send via email or Google Drive link. Students need to be dressed in nice clothing (think of it like a regular performance, no jeans/t-shirts/shorts/flipflops etc.)
- Students will each been emailed their virtual S&E information to their canvas account. This information sheet will have the link they need to click on to virtually attend their event (it’s like a Zoom call with an adjudicator that will give them feedback on their recorded performance). Students will then receive a rating and a sheet with information.
Trojan Band Leadership Information
Leadership applications are still available here and beside Ms. Haugen’s door. There will be a leadership interested meeting on Monday, April 26th from 2pm-3pm. All interested students need to attend. There will also be a conducting clinic on Tuesday, April 27th from 2pm-4pm with former FSU Drum major, Mr. (almost Dr.) Farr! Come check it out!
Booster Elections
We will be having an in person and Zoom General Booster Meeting on Monday, May 3 at 6pm in the LHS Auditorium. We will be social-distancing and masks will be required for everyone who attends. We will be holding Booster Board Elections and talking about upcoming events.
We are looking for some new members for the Trojan Band Booster Board to replace some outgoing parents, including Secretary and Hospitality Chair. If you have questions or are interested in being nominated for these or any other Booster Board position, please contact Debi Menacof, head of the Nominating Committee at debimenacof@gmail.com.
Concert Attire
We have our Spring Concert coming up on May 15. There will be two socially distanced performances in the auditorium, at 2pm and 6:30pm. All students will perform in both shows, and parents will be given an opportunity to get tickets to one or the other. There will be more info coming about this later this month.
Concert Attire is required for the Spring Concert! Please review info below about purchasing concert attire. Concert Attire includes the Green Concert Jacket which is supplied by the band. Students are responsible for purchasing the following:
- Black Tuxedo Pants
- White Wing Collar Tuxedo Shirt
- Black Bow Tie
- Black Cummerbund
- Tall Black Socks
- Black Velocity Marching Shoes or other Black Dress Shoes (no high heels).
Students tend to grow during their high school years! Please have returning students try on their concert attire (especially pants), etc. well before the performance so you can replace them if needed. Items like bow ties & cummerbunds tend to disappear, so make sure your student knows where these items are located before the day that they need them!
You can purchase concert attire at some local stores (such as JCPenney or M&R Clothing) or online at Southeastern Performance Apparel (https://sepapparel.com/) . There are more options, especially for girls, when purchasing online.
If you have any questions about concert attire or uniforms in general, please let me know!Senior Dates/Information
April 26th: Senior Slideshow pictures & Senior Wills due
It’s that time of year where we collect pictures for the senior slide show and information for the senior will and testaments to be used at the band banquet! The senior slideshow features pictures of each senior throughout their life and high school band career, and is set to music picked by the seniors. We ask that seniors or parents email 10 individual pictures of their senior (one that is a baby picture), and then 1 additional picture of either the senior yearbook photo or the cap and gown photo. (No collage pictures please)
The senior will and testament is a document compromised of seniors “leaving” abstract and concrete objects to their fellow band members. The document will be sent out to the seniors to fill out. Please email pictures and senior will information to lincolnbandleadership@gmail.com by April 26th.
